The Book That Changed My Life

‘Life changing’ was in the title, however when I received this book from my partner I was quite offended. Did he think I wasn’t already tidy? I pride myself on trying to be tidy. However, I still found myself tidying and organising the same things over and over again. So with my ego aside, I gave it a read and I couldn’t put it down. Marie Kondo’s method is so good that all of her clients no longer need her once they have adopted her methods. You may have seen ‘Tidying up with Marie Kondo’ already on Netflix?

Marie calls her method ‘The KonMarie method’, which is all about creating a space in which everything around you, literally sparks joy. If you feel anxious about opening your storage boxes, cupboards or even trying to find an outfit which you like, or that you feel you are a hoarder, this will be the perfect read for you.

The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying: A simple, effective way to banish clutter forever’

This book allowed me to organise all my belongings by category, I thought this was great because I wasn’t overwhelmed by all of my stuff. There is an order in which you organise your things, and with a few rules in mind.

These 6 rules being –

  1. Make the commitment
  2. Consider how tidy up might change your life
  3. Get rid of items first
  4. Think of category not by location
  5. Follow the check list order
  6. Find Joy

Sometimes the hardest part about organising your belongings is knowing where to start, she has provided an order which you follow when tidying up

  1. Clothes
  2. Books
  3. Papers
  4. Komono (miscellaneous items)
  5. Sentimental items

So I can truly say, I got committed and began my journey to declutter and get rid of the old stuff which no longer gave me happiness. I found that when I was sorting out my clothes that I was keeping them for emotional reasons, admittedly, I was never going to wear them again. And when I picked them up to feel the energy clothes, I realised that they no longer sparked joy. This is one of the things Marie preaches, feel the items by picking them up one by one  and listen and trust your gut. I made a donate pile and a recycle pile and cleared two thirds of my clothes alongside so much other stuff I didnt need.

My wardrobe being nice and tidy inspired me to then move onto the other list of things, working through the book has allowed my little flat to feel uncluttered and spacious. I can feel relaxed in my personal space. The biggest shift amazingly was a mental one, I feel lighter and just knowing exactly where everything is saves so much time and energy to be about to go straight to it. I also no longer buy in bulk, with shops on every corner, there is no need to keep a small shop in your home!

So if you’re looking for a new read, I would 100% recommend this book!  If you receive it, believe me it is a true gift and will change your life for the better.

If you click the image it will take you to a link where you can purchase the book. The link is an affiliate link, which means I get a very small percentage for your purchase (but wont cost you anything more!).

Happy tidying guys!
